Robots Could Be Our Co-Workers In The Future

Will robots replace the journalists and doctors of the future?

Should artificial intelligence be seen as a professional threat to the human being?

The future is here. Or almost. That at least was what many of us thought when we learned that Le Monde used a robot to write a large part of the articles they published on the electoral day of March 22 in France. It is not that Data2Content has become the natural substitute for the journalist, but that the system quickly performed a tedious task: creating a template with the election results of that night, in which he only had to complete the name of the place and the data of the vote.

The robot used in Le Monde can be interpreted as a serious threat to the journalistic profession.

Will these systems be cast in the jobs of the future?

Will we have to assume the inevitable news that robots become our co-workers?
Robots As Pens, Doctors And Analysts of The Future:
Artificial intelligence has shown to be a serious competitor of human beings in terms of speed and efficiency. It’s not just that robots like Data2Content can perform tedious tasks such as collecting election results, but also newspapers like the Los Angeles Times use robotic devices to produce news related to earthquakes in less than three minutes.

Faster, more effective, more innovative. Robots are not only changing journalism. According to a study by the University of Oxford quoted in Fortune , 47% of jobs in the United States in 2030 could be done by automated systems .

When making use of these statistics, it is inevitable to think about the labor threat they pose, rather than the paradigm shift we are experiencing. Not only are there journalists such as Le Monde or Los Angeles Times . For example, Johnson & Johnson received authorization from the FDA to develop and market an automated system capable of administering anesthesia to patients undergoing surgery.

Review of information in a systematic way, diagnosis of diseases or financial analysis. There are three areas in which robots could work. In fact, Ray Kurzweil , director of engineering at Google, believes that by 2029 AI devices could reach a level of intelligence similar to that of the human species. Threat or simple exaggeration?

The Industrial Revolution … Robotics:

It is not the first time that machines are seen as a threat. During the Industrial Revolution, Luddism opposed the introduction of modern machinery in the production process. Although the causes of these revolts are due to precarious working conditions, history has shown the innumerable benefits brought by the automation of many industrial stages .

The same happened with the massive use of computers in our jobs. It is hard to imagine what we would do without a computer next to us . It is, without doubt, tools that have greatly facilitated our professional (and personal) activity, improving our communication and efficiency.

The arrival of robots in jobs should not be seen as a threat. It is possible that different jobs are automated, as has been happening since the nineteenth century. Its use as complementary tools will improve our professional efficiency, and will change the social paradigm again. We will promote the creation of more specialized and sophisticated jobs, in which only the human mind can perform its functions.
