SONY BREAKS THE MARKET AND ANNOUNCES ITS RETRO CONSOLE: THE PLAYSTATION CLASSIC

Sony joins the trend of retro consoles and launches its PlayStation Classic, a mini version of its historic PS1. You will have 20 games preloaded.

Three Data The First: The video game industry represents a market of more than more than 82,000 million dollars worldwide.

Other: So far in 2018, Nintendo Switch came in sales to PlayStation 4 . A third: the retro trend advances in the world of games.

With that information, it was clear that Sony was going to make a strategic move, at least until he decided to release the fifth version of his PlayStation.

It Will Go On Sale On December 3rd for 100 euros:

The Mini versions that Nintendo has released these previous years have been a real gift for fans. With NES Classic Mini it was almost impossible to find it if you had not booked it, finding some prices fired in the resale. For Super NES Mini , the stock has been much higher, and you can still find units. What will happen with the PlayStation Classic ? Because yes, Sony has announced its mini version of its first console.

This miniature version will be released on December 3 for 100 euros , including two controls and 20 pre-installed games . This version is 45% smaller than the original one, emulating and maintaining the same controls in its games (we will return to the crosshead). The console will connect via HDMI to the television. The buttons outside the console are also maintained, with the Power doing the same function, the Reset pausing them and the Open to change games.

What Games Will Come?

PlayStation 1 was the first console in history to exceed one million units sold worldwide . It was launched on December 3, 1994 in Japan, but it was not until 2006 when it stopped being manufactured. With so much time, it is logical that the list of video games that were published for the console is practically eternal, so it is hard to imagine what title Sony will have chosen for its mini version. At the moment, only the following have been confirmed:

  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Jumping Flash
  • R4 Ridge Racer Type 4
  • Tekken 3
  • Wild Arms

Of these, only Final Fantasy VII and Tekken 3 are among the 10 best-selling games in the history of the console , so the choices by Sony to add to the catalog need not be the most popular. With the remake of Crash or Spyro , we can expect that neither of these two games will be, titles that left their mark on the console. However, other platforms such as Croc, MediEvil or Heart of Darkness could take their place.

Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Dino Crisis … the list of great games that can be added in very extensive, so it is very certain that there will be discrepancies among the chosen ones. Will there be an option to buy more games on the PlayStation Store?

It is the first attempt of Sony to venture into the world of retro mini console, following the successful steps of Nintendo, which in recent years presented a NES Classic Mini and a SNES Classic Mini.

The 20 games preloaded, according to Sony, will be “reproducible in its original format”. Although the full list was not provided, they will certainly be Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Wild Arms, Jumping Flash and Ridge Racer Type 4.

“The original PlayStation was the first home console in the history of video games to sell 100 million units worldwide, offering consumers the opportunity to play games with real-time 3D rendered graphics in their homes for the first time,” says the presentation spot published by Sony.

The new-old console will be approximately 45% smaller than the original gray PlayStation console. Like most modern mini-consoles, you will have an HDMI jack to make sure it works with current TVs.

You will also have two original joysticks (pre DualShock).
PlayStation Classic will be available for pre-orders at retail stores in the United States and Canada and will go on sale on December 3.

It is hoped that Sony can avoid the problems of logistics that Nintendo has in regards to the demand of the NES Classic Edition, which is resulting in prices in oversized online stores.
